Meera Kapadia

(Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Psychotherapist, Clinical and Safeguarding Supervisor and Trainer.
I am a UKCP registered Adult and Adolescent Psychotherapist and a UKCP Accredited Supervisor.

Psychotherapy
My purpose in life is healing individuals and their families. This would potentially enable them to have more fulfilling and meaningful relationships, connections and contributions to society.
Consultancy
I am passionate about system healing, so that we can have more responsive and relational systems to serve the needs of local populations, and decrease health inequalities.
Experience
For over fifteen years I worked exclusively with Adults within organisational settings of: Education, Social Services, the Voluntary Sector and Employee Assistance Programs. My specialisms included: Domestic Violence, Bereavement, Abuse, BAME /Asian women, Alcohol Counselling, Refugees/Asylum Seekers, Depression, Work Related issues, Anxiety and Trauma.
I worked in the NHS as an Adolescent Psychotherapist, Supervisor and Trainer, in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) for over seventeen years. My specialisms include: Asian/ BAME young People, Sexuality, Exam and school related Stress, Self harm, Suicide, Eating Disorders, Bullying, Abuse, Children in Care/ Care Leavers.
I have provided training in the fields of Counselling and Psychotherapy for over twenty five years, and currently teach at the Minster Centre, and am a guest lecturer at the Anna Freud CYP IAPT programmes.
Languages
I provide therapy in Hindi and Gujarati as well as English.

My life experience is that of an Asian woman who has lived in three very different countries; India, USA and United Kingdom. This personal experience has made me aware of embedded values, beliefs and assumptions within each system, from an insider-outsider perspective. I understand that coming from collective cultures and living in an individualistic culture can be complex to navigate, with sometimes opposing values and norms. I provide a safe space to explore how to navigate race and culture issues and other minority experience issues. This often involves creating your own personal third culture identity, which takes intersectionality into account e.g. BAME and a woman.
